Both were not enabled the last time or two I compiled the kernel, so since they aren't the problem, I will compile them back in. I do have other systems that use the same DHCP server and they all work fine (even other Gentoo systems). It's not a cable or switch problem since the system works just fine if I boot off of the Gentoo install CD. When I boot off the CD, the system detects the NIC and DHCP gets an ip address and everything is fine, yet the system refuses to work with the kernel (gentoo-sources) that I've compiled.
