Well, we do have a semi working solution right now at http://glis.sf.net
(needs to be updated for 1.4).  But I want to work something much better.

I'm totally open to C/C++ implimentation, the only problem is that I am
VERY new to C and don't know any C++, so I couldn't do it.  Personally,
I'd really like for it to be written in Python, but there is no python
interpreter on the livecd.  I had already been pondering C, and thus
started with the idea.  I'm just not sure what the advantage of C/C++
would be, especially since the backend wouldn't require any user input. 
But again, that is just my newbie C/C++ question.
