Ah... the Asus A7V... :) I've had it too, I needed to turn off as many 
options as possible to get the livecd to boot: noscsi; nodhcp; nousb; 
no-what-have-you (don't have a cd here to check what the options are). 
If all else fails, you may also want to reset the bios to factory 
settings to make sure the board responds well to the probing.

I've gotten it to work properly, so it is possible!
