When a problem is caused by two interacting systems, it's not easy to point a finger. The LinkSys firmware triggered the dysfunction - I'd talk to them first. It's far from certain that this is a fault in Linux. Windows has all sorts of non-standard behaviors in its networking, and it's easy to fall into the trap of depending on them. That's why using a network analyzer would be useful. Anyway... glad you're back in business. Please bang on LinkSys loudly enough to get their attention on this problem.
