I am about to install Gentoo, and would like to know how to write

installed and working! I am a newbie and am sure to make mistakes the

found much. Everything seems to deal with dos-linux dual boot.

Thanks

Ron, Put Gentoo in its own partitions and then under Mandrake modify lilo.conf basically duplicating the Mandrake setup but using the Gentoo partition numbers. It should be pretty straight forward as long as you already are dual boot with Mandrake and Win XP.

You might consider switching from lilo under Mandrake to grub under
Gentoo. I personally think grub is a little more straight forward, but
they will both do the job just fine.

Good luck,

Or like i did:
Install gentoo and gentoo on its own partition.
When you get to the point where you install lilo then put it on the same device as you installed gentoo.
Then you boot mandrake and put an extra reference in mandrake lilo.conf thats points to the gentoo install. When you boot you pass trough two lilo prompts.
I put /boot on the same partition as / in gentoo.
The benefit is that it that you dont trash your setup if you run lilo from mandrake and overwrite the gentoo lilo. If you do that you need to mount / in gentoo in mandrake and chroot to / in gennto and rerun lilo from gentoo. I dont know if this makes sense but if you do run in to problems you sertainly will.
Good luck Kenneth
