I do this also (using WinXP and Eudora at work to check personal mail) 
and what I do is set the Windows mail client up to leave messages on 
the POP server with the option to delete them from the server *if* I 
delete them locally, i.e. empty my mail trash. This way, I delete 90% 
of the messages I see daily (mailing lists, usually). The ones I 
want, I usually just leave in my inbox. When I get home, I check mail 
and those messages that I didn't delete get delivered here.
