I've experienced by removing lilo from MBR , w2k couldn't fix the MBR by running FDISK /MBR.
Kept saying " NTLDR missing "
I have to admit though that it was a triple boot setup with win98 as well.
Just to point out that you shouldn't rely on it blindly....

Anthony in Annandale, N.J., had a laptop with Windows XP and Linux. He uninstalled Linux, but he still gets the option menu at boot. How can he get rid of the menu?
You need to replace the master boot record. Boot your computer with your XP startup disk and go into rescue mode. You want to access the command line interface. At the prompt, type "FDISK /MBR" (without quotes). This will replace your master boot record.
