Hi,
Some time ago there was a simiral message on the list, so I also checked and 
saw there is no such thing.
But looking in the in /usr/portage/profile/portage.mask saw that it seems to 
hold the packages masked by devs and maybe later updated by emerge sync.
So made a portage directory in /etc, in it ceated portage.mask and 
portage.unmask and in the end put some stuff in it. Checked - it worked.
I think this a way so everybody could customize there's masked packages.
Not sure if all this is correct.
