****New message below**** If you want to build everything in, select all the ALSA modules to be built-in--instead of built as modules--then select your sound card. Afterward, you can emerge alsa-libs and alsa-utils, check you configs per the Gentoo ALSA Guide, and the update-modules. After that, run amixer to set your levels...
