Thanks for the interesting procedure - filed for future reference.

In counter to this, I've been running gentoo for about 3 years, and I've
never encountered any problems with devfs.  True, the config parameters
are counter intuitive, but it's been rodk solid for me and I presume,
due to the absence of many threads about devfs, for others as well.

I'm content to wait for the kernel developers to sort out the new
alternative.
