You need the following flags in your kernel for 1Gb of RAM:

(4GB) High Memory Support
[*] HIGHMEM I/O support

Cheers.

I have a question regarding the memory in my server running gentoo.

I just recently upgraded to 1GB of RAM in my server (1 x 512 MB and 2 x 256 MB). The memory is recognized fine by the BIOS, but for some reason Gentoo is only seeing about 868MB of the RAM.

2 possible solutions I have thought of are:
a) enable High Memory support in my kernel
b) pass a mem=xxxxM line to the kernel.

I have basically a 2 part question, the first is... does anyone have any other solutions to this besides what I have come up with. Second, I know how to use the mem= line with Lilo, but how would I go about using this sort of line with Grub?

I know I could just be trying these myself, but seeing as this is my server, I would like to have a better idea as to where to go so as to minimize the downtime on the server (just recently gave up on a 200+ uptime in order to upgrade the kernel *sigh* hehe).

Thanks in advance,
Travis
