I've got a gateway 450x (450rog according to support site). It's the centrino one. Anyway, ACPI works fine here (kernel 2.6). I havent tried a 2.4 kernel other than ck-sources 2.4.22_pre(?). Make sure you have the latest ACPI patches for your kernel. Otherwise, try woth _no_ power management in the kernel.
