When running emerge as this,
# emerge -pv python
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild R ] dev-lang/python-2.2.3-r5 +ncurses +gdbm +readline -tcltk +berkdb -build +doc +ssl
I see that python is not new, but needs to be reemerged. After doing this, I still get the R, asking to reemerge python.
How can I find out why I am supposed to reemerge the package and why, in this particular case, reemerging python does not fix it?
U are wrong ... "emerge -Upv pkg" will say u if update is necessary "emerge pkg" is (re)emerging the package
