:-) Good advice, but how can u ping "your" network broadcast address if u don't know it ? (Because, e.g. your dhcp client is not installed/broken ...)
U have to use "ping -I eth0 -b 255.255.255.255" instead, but it can happen not only DHCP server answers ...
