I think that I found it by myselk... I added relayhost = smtp.mydomain in /etc/postfix/main.cf and it works. Sorry for the bandwith cheers, Laurent

Thanks for your replies. got postfix installed, but I am not able to send mail. It works for email adresses with the same domain name, but not outside. I have started postfix with
# postfix start
Acording the Gentoo Linux Desktop Configuration Guide, "If you only intend to use your mail server for sending mail, then postfix is already set up for you"?
What am I missing?
cheers,
Laurent

I would like to install postfix, but net-mail/ssmtp is blocking it. I read in the portage user guide that 'performing an unmerge (emerge -C) will remove a package even if it is a dependancy for other packages, possibly breaking the system'.
I checked this with:
# qpkg --query-deps ssmtp
[snip]
This looks ok, or not. Can I safely unmerge ssmtp?
Looks safe. Incidentally, that's what I had to do. Postfix has been working great for me.
