Building any commercial product for a target distribution is a bad idea IMHO.
You've limited yourself to gentoo or debian for deployment, but have already shut out the significant numbers of redhat (plus derivatives) folks, mandrake folks, suse folks, plus the many other various flavors of linux that are out there. As a commercial product, you should seek the widest possible audience for sales and distribution. Focus less on the target distribution. Get your product functional across multiple distributions and then look into how to support the update process for each distribution or, as most other corp products, rely upon a manual process that each distribution can use (ftp, then run script, ...). -- [email protected] mailing list
