Maybe not, but do you have alsa OSS emulation installed? That amounts to the same thing.

It was working before when i had alsa compiled into the kernel, i'm trying to use the newer alsa drivers now

My impression is that Jadex wasn't referring to the alsa-drivers or the alsa kernel drivers, but the XMMS alsa plugin in the XMMS configuration.


Have you configured XMMS to use that plugin, and made sure that that plugin is using the correct devices (there's a dropdown list, and for my onboard sound at least, choosing a device from that list is usually better than leaving the plugin set at the defaults)? And have you checked other sound-producing applications (pySol, frozen-bubble, system sounds, anything that makes a ding or plays music) to see if your sound card is actually working?
