hi,

For some reason I need to re-emerge my system, thus re-emerge the
base system and all the packages in the world file. I spent several
days on the job and find it's harder than my imagination ...

1. How can I find all the packages used by the base system? I install
gentoo from stage 2 and when I typed "emerge system" that time it
listed about 70 packages. But I can find only 6 packages by "cat
/etc/make.profile/packages".

2. How can I get rid of those fake ebuilds? I write a script to
re-emerge all the packages in the /var/lib/portage/world. When it
encountered a fake ebuild such as kde-3.3.2 it just check all the
dependent packages and report "Finished", thus this package *jumped
over* in fact. It's really dirty and a heavy work if I have to figure
out each *real* package(kdelibs, kdearts, etc.)

3. How to make sure the emerge order is correct? All the dependency is
satisfied when every package is re-emerge since I have a complete
system now, the emerge system cannot tell me which package I should
re-emerge first(Should the libpng first or the xorg-x11?). All I know
is emerge system first then the world.

    Thanks for your reply.
