It's a technique my father perfected and I am in training. You simply ignore everyone and everything. Someone asks you a question or to do something and you don't even hear it. I have not yet perfected the automatic "reasonable answer" (i.e., you give the impression of having heard and replied but you really have not even registered it) but am working on it. It takes time and perseverance but is well worth it ;-).
