Hmm, maybe I don't understand the question. I don't run Netbeui, but I _can_ use a WINS server for resolving host names to IP addresses in Gentoo by adding the 'wins' option to the hosts line in nsswitch.conf and having a properly configured smb.conf file. So when I bring up konqueror and type "smb://servername/sharename", it can resolve <servername>, even if the server is on a different subnet. Also, when I am running a VMWare virtual machine, I can access <servername> in windows explorer, even though the networking in VMWare is configured for NAT. I can also use a windows network printer from Gentoo or VMWare. All of this works because I tell my system to use WINS for name resolution if something isn't in DNS. Does that make sense? Or do I still not understand what you are asking?? -Richard -- [email protected] mailing list
