/var/log/messages told me that /dev/lp0 was successfully
created, and lsmod shows that lp, parport, and parport_pc
are loaded.
Any ideas how to diagnose the problem?

/var/log/cups/* ?

Shows no problem. Maybe my paralell port is broken? I wonder
how I could check this... hmm, I could solder a LED to a
resistor or go wild with a multimeter. Does anyone have an
idea what to do on the software side i.e. how to set/unset
each pin?
