In my case my kid plays XBox on this XBox so I don't want to mess with the machine any more than necessary. The software mod looks like it's the best way to go as it only seems to disable XBox Live until you under it. Since he's 12 he doesn't get to do XBox Live yet.
We want to box to possibly be a video display unit. I want to stream captured video from another machine to the XBox and have it convert mpeg-2 (or whatever is captured) to video for the TV.
