Since "emerge -inject" is depreciated, the way to tell emerge that a package is already installed is to list it in package.provided.
It seems there is some confusion as to where package.provided should be placed. The portage man page talks about /etc/make.profile/ but I have seen other documentation (I believe in the gentoo wiki) which says put in /etc/portage/. The problem is that emerge ignores it in /etc/portage and "an emerge sync" removes it from /etc/make.profile/. So the question is: Where should it be placed? -- Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. -- Benjamin Franklin -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list
