That is exactly what I thought too when reverting didn't work. But, the device does work fine in another computer.

To me, that implies that it may have been another package I upgraded (udev?) that is causing the change... but unfortunately I don't remember exactly what programs were on the list of updates.


Based on the log, I would say udev is the most likely point of failure. Have you run etc-update yet?

You can also try setting udev_log="yes" in /etc/udev/udev.conf, to have udev output sturff to /var/log/messages.
