Ah! Useful link - thank you. And yes, the first sample played just fine.

About the only media I play are through Firefox.

Oh yes, I see it. I've changed a few defaults, including that Block, but 
Firefox still won't play sound from what they used to call Reels and Short 
Videos - BUT! I have it now streaming BBC radio, so it's only those reels that 
aren't playing sound.

I have the Enhanced Tracking Protection set to Standard; I sometimes set it to 
Strict, but not at the moment.

Curiouser and curiouser...
