I better replicate the information for people with the same problem:
(1) cd ~
(2) tar jxf ${DISTDIR}/portage-2.1_pre1.tar.bz2
(3) cp -R portage-2.1_pre1/pym/{cache,elog_modules} /usr/lib/portage/pym
(4) rm -r portage-2.1_pre1
