CONFIG_DRM and CONFIG_DRM_RADEON are needed for direct rendering. The 
respective options are found in Device Drivers -> Character Devices.

Actually, they moved to Device Drivers -> Graphics Support -> Direct 
Rendering Manager in recent kernels.
