Hey thanks for the reply,
Ok so assuming I can get the stage3 and portage snapshot plus some
distfiles onto the machine, I could install grub, compile a (hopefully
working) kernel and then use the network after that.
I just didn't want to be compiling the kernel on that machine, but I
think doing it any other way will just be too complicated.
