The Arctic Ocean's cross-sectional profile of sea ice thickeness was 177.7 cm
meaning that virtually all ice that was encountered was about year old, leading
to speculations that the sea ice break-up and melt away takes place.

The 75-day Catlin Arctic Survey was completed today three weeks early due to
the weakening of the sea ice and that already one Canadian and one Danish team
of explorers had to be emergency rescued due to weakening ice.
