If you are interested in the geoengineering of deserts... The "Club of Rome" at www.clubofrome.org/eng/new_path is one of the founding organizations for the 500-billion dollar DESERTEC post industrial initiative or "DII". The DII consists of 13 different companies and organizations: ABB, ABENGOA Solar, Cevital, DESERTEC Foundation, Deutsche Bank, E.ON, HSH Nordbank, MAN Solar Millennium, Munich Re, M+W Zander, RWE, SCHOTT Solar and Siemens. I would recommend joining the DESERTEC CVITAL group hosted by Dr. Hadroug the CEO of ABB on the professional networking site "Linked-In" (this is open to everyone). DESERTEC is primarily focused on developing large- scale solar and wind energy projects in the Saharan in North Africa in addition to desalination plants along the coasts. High voltage direct current (HVDC) lines are planned to meet some 15% of Europe's carbon- free electricity needs by 2050. In addition, I would also recommend the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa or AGRA at http://www.agra-alliance.org which is focused on initiating a second Green Revolution, reversing desertification and combating poverty . Also, a month ago, DESERTEC Asia was launched at http://www.desertec-asia.com/content/ts-introduction.html however, the rejection of Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's carbon trading plan by the Australian Senate in the first week of this month may put an uncertain future on this organization.
