The first workshop event with members of the public took place in Birmingham on the 6th March. Thirty members of the public came together for a day to hear about the role geoengineering could play in tackling climate change. They discussed nine different geoengineering technologies from the list in the Royal Society report 'Geoengineering the Climate', focussing on their hopes and concerns for each. The second event in Birmingham take place on Saturday 13th and will allow the same group of people to think about some of the broader legal, ethical, social and political implications of geoenginering research and deployment. The two events will be repeated in Cornwall and Cardiff later in March, and the dialogue workshops will culminate with a reconvened event for participants from all three locations in Southampton in April. We have also launched our geoengineering survey website at: http://geoengineering.dialoguebydesign.net. Through this, and several open access events at science centres, we hope to collect the views of many more members of the public than can attend the dialogue workshops. This is in addition to the short stakeholder consultation we ran earlier this year, which helped us to develop the materials for the dialogue. Please pass the survey link on to colleagues, friends and family who may be interested in responding to the survey. The closing date for comments is the 15th April.
