Dear All,
We have discovered two errors in our JGR acid deposition paper, so today
submitted a correction to JGR, which you can download at:
http://climate.envsci.rutgers.edu/pdf/AcidDepositionCorrectionJGRsubmitted.pdf
The deposition values are actually about 400 times larger than we had
stated, but the conclusion that they would not be significantly larger
than deposition from other current sources is unchanged. Comments welcome.
It is amazing that this error slipped through all the authors,
reviewers, and Editor, and was only pointed out by Maggie Zhou,
attempting to reproduce our work. But this is how science works - with
a built-in self-correction mechanism. I always had a feeling that the
values we previously had in Fig. 3 were too small, and I should have
followed up on that feeling. We made the mistake by being careless with
units and writing down numbers without units. Let this be a lesson to
all of us.
