Hi I've just seen Prof Mycak at IUGG.
His talk presented a model for the paleocene eocene thermal maximum, which I believe suggests an abrupt excursion of methane in a timescale as short as 50 yrs , leading to a sudden jump in global temperature. This, if repeated, would obviously be devastating. I think we should all be mindful of this possibility when considering potential geoengineering schemes and research programmes I have cc prof Mysak, and hope he may be able to reply all with slides or paper.
