In case you did not receive a direct email, this is just to inform you
that the workshop, planned for 3-4 September in London, has
unfortunately had to be postponed till October or November. The weekend
of 15-16th October is the earliest we could have it. *If you'd like to
attend, please let me know whether that weekend is OK as soon as possible*.
This was the email I sent directly to some of you, by way of explanation
for the postponement:

Thanks for your support for the workshop on how to tackle the Arctic
methane problem.
I am particularly concerned about methane from the East Siberian Arctic
Shelf (ESAS), as reported in papers by Shakhova et al. After failed
email contact, I finally had a half-hour phone conversation with Natalia
Shakhova, yesterday. She had been away from her desk for three weeks.
She will be off again in 9 days. The whole team is going to be away
during September and there are no other experts on the ESAS who could
attend our workshop. I mentioned the kind of technical solutions we
have been discussing, and it is clear we do need to have an ESAS expert
at the workshop. Therefore, with great regret, I have decided to
postpone the workshop. However Natalia gives full support for having
the workshop, given the danger of the situation that she has witnessed
in the ESAS area.
Natalia's team have a workshop in Sweden planned for mid October, and
she (or somebody else from the team) could attend our workshop most
conveniently if we had it on the weekend 15-16th October. Alternatively
we would have to have our workshop at the end of October or in
November. (December is a busy month for the team.)
Please let me know if you could manage the weekend 15-16th October, or
if you'd prefer to the workshop to be later.

Best wishes,
John
