Hi

I have recently started working toward a PhD looking at geoengineering
governance issues. I’m a very raw new researcher with much to learn and a
very long way to go. For example, I still need to define my research
question! I’m hoping the group will be an interesting and useful resource,
but also that I will be able to contribute interesting or useful ideas in
due course.

By way of background. I’m a (very) mature student having recently left the
UK’s Economic and Social Research Council after 21 years. At the ESRC I was
programme manger for their work and funding on environment, energy and food
research. In that role I was, for example, an interested party in the SPICE
project, contributed to the cross research council debate on geoengineering
investment strategy and drafted joint texts for the councils – e.g the UK’s
Research Councils submission to the UK House of Commons Science and
Technology Committee enquiry on the regulation of geoengineering. As such I
have some insight to the issues, but at present very much from a funders
(civil servant's) rather than researcher's perspective (perhaps best
described as broad but shallow, very). Now starts the adventure of learning
to be a researcher!

I look forward to learning from members and hopefully making useful
contributions in due course too.
