Abstract

This presentation traces historical pathways leading to the contemporary
grand challenge of climate change. It offers a critique of “barking
mad”technological fixes that seek to intervene in and control climate and
unpacks the limitations of an “interventionist” Anthropocene – the
proposed, but sorely under-conceptualized new era that, in its
reductionism, determinism and bald anthropocentrism, is profoundly
disturbing.
