Hi Dale,
The GTOPO30 DEM tiles are standard BIL files just like ER Mapper uses. The
easiest way to import them would be to create an ER Mapper header file ie
e100s10.ers and put it in the same directory as the GTOPO30 DEM file ie
e100s10.dem
Enclosed below is a copy of the e100s10.ers file. For different tiles you
will need to edit the DataFile, RegistrationCoord's and maybe the NrOfLines
and NrOfCellsPerLine is you are dealing with Antartica.
DatasetHeader Begin
Version = "5.5"
Description = "GTOPO30 DEM DATA"
SourceDataset = "USGS EROS DATA CENTRE"
LastUpdated = Mon May 18 02:26:16 GMT 1998
DataFile = "e100s10.dem"
SenseDate = Mon May 18 02:26:16 GMT 1998
DataSetType = ERStorage
DataType = Raster
ByteOrder = MSBFirst
Comments = "ER Mapper header created by Encom Technology - Perth"
CoordinateSpace Begin
Datum = "WGS84"
Projection = "GEODETIC"
CoordinateType = LL
Rotation = 0:0:0.0
Units = "natural"
CoordinateSpace End
RasterInfo Begin
CellType = Signed16BitInteger
NullCellValue = -9999
CellInfo Begin
Xdimension = 0.0083333333
Ydimension = 0.0083333333
CellInfo End
NrOfLines = 6000
NrOfCellsPerLine = 4800
RegistrationCoord Begin
Latitude = -10:00:00.00
Longitude = 100:00:00.0
RegistrationCoord End
NrOfBands = 1
BandId Begin
Value = "dem"
Units = "Metres ASL"
BandId End
RasterInfo End
DatasetHeader End

Subject: [geonet]: GTOPO30
Does anyone have a utility / GX, that is also available, for converting the
non-standard GTOPO30 DEMs to Geosoft grids ... or even ASCII xyz data?
Thanks.
Dale
