I'd like to take Keith's idea a bit further to suggest reviving the old DOS
MAGMOD and GRAVMOD programs as modules for forward modelling and inversion
for ribbons, dykes, steps and tabular bodies (as for the DOS programs) with
links to the Oasis database.
I found the DOS programs very useful and quick to use to get a fairly good
idea of the depth and attitude of magnetic sources, if not to produce a
definitive interpretation of some of these. The output was an A4 page which
was handy to slip into working files or reports.

Subject: [geonet]: Magnetic Type Curves for simple magnetic models
Hi,
Whilst Montaj has become more of a data processing package than an
interpretation aid I have often felt that it would be useful to include a
module to calculate a set of magnetic type curves for simple geometric
shapes for various inclinations and declinations. A thin sheet model is a
good example of a simple model that can be applied quite usefully in
qualitative interpretation. As exploration has become more global it is not
unusual to receive data from markedly different inclinations during the
course of a single day. A simple plot to an A4(letter) scale to pin on the
wall or to open as a seperate window I would find very useful. Does anyone
else feel this would be a simple but useful interpretation aid?
