As you correctly point out, no projection info is currently written to PLY
files (unlike warp files). One workaround would be to reproject the grid
using the GRIDREPJ GX and then re-create the PLY file from the reprojected
grid. Not an ideal solution, but one which will work until a better solution
from R&D can be implemented.

Thanks Ben and others. Unfortunatly if your map is reprojected, the poly
doesn't plot properly. Now I just have to figure out how to reproject .ply
files. Probably have to use ArcInfo.
