Dear Joe,

You can change the color of text that you have entered on maps by selecting
the desired text or group that the text is contained in (using the Select A
Group button on the vertical toolbar on the right side of the montaj
screen). For text that you've entered just right mouse click on top of the
selected text and select "Attributes" from the pop-up menu. You will then be
able to select the color that you want.

For text that is embedded in groups (e.g. the UTM coordinates around the map
edges) you would select the group that the text is contained in and then
click with your right mouse button on top of the selected group and select
"Edit This Group" from the pop-up menu. Right mouse click again on top of
the group and select "Select All". Right mouse click one more time and
select "Text Attributes". You will now be able to change the color of all
text in this group.

In regards to your basemaps, if you find that you are constantly rearranging
or adding things to your map, then I would suggest that you do edit your
control files (fullmap.con and figmap.con in the Geosoft directory). I would
give the files new names and then select Mapping/Basemap/MAPPLOT Control
File/From Control File to read your own modified control files. Then your
basemaps will be created exactly as you want them.

Cheers,

Lorraine

Subject: [geonet]: Text color and map philosophy

Is there any way to change the text color from black to some other color.
Often the map colors are dark and black is not a useful color for text
labels.

I am also interested in how others approach a map making project with many
different maps. How and for what reasons one would use map control files.
If one duplicates a map, does the duplicated map use the same map
definition file and how can one determine what definition file a given map
uses (for those of us who fail to keep good notes). I have used the
technique of duplicating maps to ensure that all of the base information
remains the same but I then have to change the information in the title
block. If I manually modify the _basemap.con, will it stay modified and is
that a good or a bad idea?
