Folks,

While running this beautiful combination of OS and the Geoscience app (Oasis
montaj that is), i ran into the followings and would like to share them with
the list;

1. Any idea what happened to the "set geotemp=driveletter:\geotemp"!
Historically this was a Geosoft specific modification to "autoexec.bat" from
the legendary SUSHI era under DOS. Still, when installing Oasis montaj under
Windows 9.x, NT, W2K, a dialog box asks for the location of the geotemp
directory. So it wants to know where you want to set it up. BUT under W2K,
after installation, when you go to the "Control Panel | System | Environment
Variables", you ain't find it! Honest with the list, i still don't trust GUI
interface (could be hidden somewhere), i went to the Command Prompt and
typed "set", it ain't there! Now i am confident that geotemp is not there!
Some from the list would say, Hey Paul; software works fine, why are you
digging deep? Sorry, i don't know the answer ...

2. You might remember Tom's little recipe for the Ruler on the RMC (Right
Mouse Click), It does load the menu, but does not appears on the RMC in
Oasis montaj under W2K. It worked fine under both 9.x and NT. TOM, this is
your call; i think you should throw some magic codes into that old recipe to
make it work with W2K.

3. Last but not the least, What is the deal with SUSHI under W2K? i really
don't use SUSHI, but frequently use the command line to execute Geosoft
commands and Mapview for quick viewing of Geosoft grids. I have always liked
running Geosoft (SUSHI/DOS) under Oasis montaj to have the best of two
worlds. I tried configuring the plotting menu before installing Oasis montaj
(mainly for the screen resolution of Mapview), but my old friend Mr. Mapview
hanged on me and left me with only one option to access my PC all over again
(reSET button - in today's laptops that is inserting a pencil tip into a
hole which is labelled "reSET" - frankly i have no idea what it does to the
PC, but it certainly is better than unplugging, i figured!) Humour aside, i
don't think this has anything to do with Geosoft. Microsoft has removed and
is in the process of removing the LEGENDARY DOS from the next generation
Windows! i will mourn forever. TOM, do somethin' about it buddy, i beg you.

G' weekend everybody,
