I've been experimenting with customising fonts and
can't quite figure out what's going on, so I thought someone out there might
know the answers. The first thing I tried was to copy the DEFAULT.GFN file to
TEST.GFN. I then went into TEST.GFN and deleted everything but the first 12
characters. I then thought I could convert TEST.GFN to TEST.BFN through
GFN2BFN.EXE. To my surprise, Montaj 4.3 doesn't have it(or I accidentally erased
it) so I took a copy from my old DOS Oasis and ran GFN2BFN TEST TEST. I went
back into Montaj and placed a symbol on a map. In the attribute popup table, I
scrolled down all the geosoft fonts and TEST was there and showed the first 12
characters, and the rest were those rectangles to indicate that there's no
defined character. Everything mad sense up until this point. I then went back to
the DOS shell and modified TEST.GFN to contain the first 20 characters of
DEFAULT.GFN, ran GFN2BFN, went back, edited the plot and brought up the
attribute popup table. I scrolled through the geosoft fonts and TEST was there
but still only showed the first 12 characters rather than the first 20
characters that I was expecting. I then went to the DOS shell and deleted
TEST.GFN and TEST.BFN. I went back to Montaj, edited the map, and brought up the
attribute popup table. I scrolled through the geosoft fonts and to my surprise
TEST was still there and still showed the first 12 characters. Now I can't make
any sense what so ever of what's going on. Can anyone out there help clear
things up for me?
