I recommend Matlab for one of data manipulations. It also has lots of
analysis functions. I have Geosoft grid reader and display functions that I
could probably make available for a small cost.

I think many geophysicists spend a lot of time manipulating their line data.
OM has its own limitations and Geophysical line data is usually big in
volume and is hard to bring to programs like MS-EXCEL to manipulate. It also
is real nuisance to have to write a special purpose program in a standard
language like C each time such a need comes up.
AWK and PERL are quite simple basic programming languages that handle such
small tasks easily and often in just few lines of code, if you would like to
give them a try.
