Aaron,
The
.gd~ files are backup indexes of the original databases. They guarantee database
integrity in case the main GDB file is corrupted during a commit or by a disk
error. They are not necessary for a database to be loaded and are only read in
when repairing a database. However, every time a database is committed, the GD~
file is written out.
