I have had the same problem with the truncated file names for the last two
or three upgrades. Geosoft tech support helped me through a lot of gnashing
of teeth and pulling of hair for the most recent upgrade and it ended up
that the licenses on my red disk needed to be replaced/upgraded.

(I'm on Widows NT)
