Hello Doug & everyone,

Trying out the forward gravity calculations of V8.2 for draped surfaces -
My results seem better than before, but still quite far from the same calculations for a horizontal surface.

For instance, modeling now produces:
• From a draped surface - GCALC values ranging from approx. +314 to +885
• From a horizontal surface - GCALC values ranging from approx. -35 to +44
(Same model, same layers, same densities, same DC-shift, etc.)

The difference between the two is too big to make sense, and the draped surface GCALC values seem unrealistic. So possibly, there is still a problem with the draped surface forward calculations.

Best,
Michal

Hi Michal and other geosoft users

Has anyone been using GM-SYS 3D since the latest release 8.2? Is this bug
fixed or are you still running into the same problems?

Cheers,
Doug

Hello,

For anyone using GM-SYS 3D and performing forward calculations or
inversions -
How do you get around the inability to model on draped surfaces?

For example:
The observed field is from a draped surface (the local topography), but
the computed field is from an arbitrary constant surface (normally the
highest topography in the area).
Substracting one from the other creates the GERR grid in forward
calculations.
So comparing between apples and oranges, doesn't this result require some
corrections?

Thanks everyone!
Michal
