Right now GeoNode uses the ISO 19115:2003 standard internally, and is able to update the metadata records in the CSW server (right now GeoNetwork) based on the user profile information (for contact information). It also populates automatically the bounding box record using Geoserver to calculate it. The Demo server is hosted and maintained by the kind folks at OpenGeo they read this mailing list and my be able to set you up with an account so you can try it for yourself.
