I just did an install on 11.10 (oneric) yesterday. I was certainly _not_ able to use the packages, but had to download the release manually and use the install script. The largest issue I ran into was that I had to specify the path to postgis properly at the end of the support/config-ubuntu.sh file http://dpaste.de/5jG1B/
Let us know if you are able to install that way. Ariel, is there some specific reason that the package is not compatible with 11.10 (oneric). It seems like this may be the only issue, and it seems easily solveable. Happy to help sort it out with you in the packages if need be.
