Unable to overwrite shapefiles using rest configuration tool

When using the rest configuration to PUT zipped shapefiles to the server it
works the first time but then produces an error saying "error in opening zip
file" the 2nd time you attempt to upload. The URL used is
/geoserver/rest/<ws>/maps/datastores/<ds>/file.shp. I also noticed that the
original .shp file in the \data_dir\data\<ds> folder had changed to .shp.zip
the 2nd time I uploaded the files.
