WFS 1.1.0 fails with filter having surface that is a plain polygon

Geoserver already supports using curves in WFS 1.1 filter if the curve is
actually just a linestring. However, filter with a surface composed of one
plain polygon gives a null pointer exception.

type (file: WFS1.1_surface_request.txt) and messages captured from Geoserver
console (file: WFS1.1_surface_error.txt).
